Graphic Design: Is It Really For You?
Thursday, March 13, 2008 at 12:28PM
Here are a few reasons why you should think of changing careers if you’re in graphic design:
1. You use Helvetica most of the time that your target readers are getting sick of it. There are a lot of other fonts out there that you can use for your ads such as your marketing brochures. If you’re stuck with Helvetica, better to try another career.
2. You use centered layouts too often. It’s amateurish, dull and boring. Unless you’re doing a formal invitation such as a wedding invitation, well, that’ll be acceptable. Other than that, centered layouts just don’t cut it in terms of creativity and imagination.
3. You hit your ‘return’ key more than once. Having to hit your ‘return’ key twice means you have two spaces after every end of your sentence. You’re leaving too much space that makes it look like your ideas are disconnected to each other.
4. You put your text to more boxes than you can count. Boxes when used sparingly can provide something different to your design. But used too often it can only confuse your readers from your message. A white space is better than colored boxes.
But if you’re keen on continuing your career as a graphic designer, you would probably have to change your habits. Doing so would do you a lot of good especially in making you look more professional in the ads you create for your clients.
